(DOK-9120-01) In Aalsum, close to Dokkum (the most northern 'elfsteden' town) the monumental 'kop-hals-romp' farm from 1860. The farm is still in operation for agriculture. From the terrace, you have a beautiful view over the landed estates, which invite you to go wandering about. Therefore, bicycles can be hired and there are riding horses available. Dokkum is a historic town with museums, many beautiful restored houses, streets and bastians. The museum 't Fiskershûske in Paesens-Moddergat (15km) gives in a very captivating manner the hard life of the fishermen who were earlier fully dependent on what the sea gave and took as well. Besides, both villages along the wadden coast are quite authentic. The Lauwers Lake area with its beach and nature areas are within +/- 15 km. Here you can in many ways re-create and enjoy the wadden sea. Even a day trip to Schiermonnikoog and Ameland is truly recommended.
