Lighthouse Veli Rat was built in 1849 on the northwestern Cape of Dugi Otok, in the southwest of Istrias most southern Cape. The lighthouse is surrounded by a dense pine tree bush, beautiful creeks, pebbled beaches, and is one of the most beautiful along the Adriatic Sea.
In the lighthouse building are two apartments.
3 km distance from the lighthouse, you will find the towns Veli Rat, Verunic and Polje, where you can do your shopping.
From the tower of 40m high, you have a splendid view.
During your stay in Veli Rat you can visit the Kornati National Park and the Telascica Nature Park. The departure point for these excursions is the place Sali, on the other side of the island.
The lighthouse has always had a lighthouse guard and there is even a waiting list for this special lighthouse!
There are two beautiful pebbled beaches, very suitable for small children, in the surrounding of the lighthouse. Furthermore, during your walks you will come across lovely little bays.
You can order a part of your shopping on the market or do your shopping in one of the supermarkets in Zadar. There are ample possibilities on the island, but the prices here are a bit higher! Fresh fish can be ordered at the lighthouse guard and for the preparation, you can speak to his wife.
Interesting to know: the big wall of the lighthouse, which protects you against the burning sun, contains, according to the legends, thousands egg whites to protect the lighthouse better against influence of sea and wind.

Remarks of the owner * Apartments have been renovated in 1999/2000. They are simply furnished with new furniture. * Apartments have warm and cold water. Drinking-water is available on the cistern. * Apartments have their own electricitysupply of 220 volts. * In this area you can use the cell phone of standard of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz and you can be connect with all European countries using the roaming service. * Each apartment has TV. Apartments don't have satellite TV. * There is shower in the bathroom. Each apartment has 2 big and 2 small towels. It is recommended to bring extra towels. * Kitchen is equipped with sink, stove with an oven and a fridge that is working on electricity or on gas (depends on the lighthouse). * Bedrooms are provided with beds with mattresses, sheets and two blankets for each bed.
Tourist tax of €1,- per person, per day is already included in the rental price.
